General Settings
  • Its habitat is South and Central America.
  • The length of the body is 40-70 cm. The length of the tail is 30-70 cm.
  • Weight-up to 6 kg.
  • The diet includes mainly insects, as well as arthropods: scorpions, spiders.
  • Life expectancy-up to 15 years.

The coati got its name for its elongated muzzle, and the nose together with the front part of the upper lip forms a movable proboscis.


Social behavior


The Coati live in groups of 5-20 animals. The group includes adult females and their young of both sexes up to a year old. Adult males join the group only during the mating season.


Reproduction


Pregnancy lasts approximately 75 days. 3-7 naked blind cubs weighing up to 85 g are born. The mother feeds the babies with milk until about 4 months.


Species and people


The inhabitants of the places inhabited by coati, are  tolerant to cute little animals. However, coati do not stop visiting the chicken coops, this makes people to set traps.


Interesting Facts


Coati can make sounds similar to bird chirping, grunting and snoring.

Coati walk slowly. But at the same time, they can run for short distances in a kind of gallop. They climb trees well.
