Today is a special day for the Kharkiv Zoo: the Giraffe House meets its first inhabitant. A smart and cute 10-month-old baby Dema came to us from Odessa Biopark. The Giraffe House is a spacious two-storey building with a total area of 816 m², made in accordance with all EAZA requirements, which belongs to the "African Savannah" exposition zone.
On the ground floor there is a visitor's hall, an exhibition enclosure for giraffes and an open enclosure. The second floor is equipped with slots for serving feeders and a ventilation chamber. The enclosures are equipped with feeders, drinkers and rubber sleeping mats. The giraffe's ration includes: fresh tree branches, alfalfa hay, special muesli, flax seeds, oatmeal, apples, oranges, celery, carrots, onions or green onions, Chinese cabbage, and a banana as a training treat.
The house of the giraffe is one of the most complex and interesting expositions of the renovated zoo, which takes all the features of keeping such majestic animals, so we hope that Dema will quickly get used to it and will wait for the opening of the zoo with us.
