Social behavior

Adult birds from year to year nest in the same nest and with the same partner. Each female perfectly knows the location of her nest and recognizes her chick by voice. Each pair has its own small area around the nest and knows its neighbors very well.

Reproduction

Both parents incubate a clutch of two eggs for 40-42 days. Chicks hatch at intervals of two days. Parents feed the chicks daily, going to feed in the morning and returning in the evening. Chicks leave the nest at the age of 10–12 weeks.

Species and people

People used to hunt penguins for meat, skin and fat. At present, the decrease in the number is influenced by the decrease in the number of fish,  death of birds in fishing nets.
