Carolina Duck belongs to the genus of forest ducks-a close relative of the mandarin duck, which is the most beautifully and brightly colored among the goose-like birds.


Social behavior


Carolina Duck, pairs are formed in their wintering grounds, but only for one season. The initiative in mating games belongs to the female, who chooses a single male.


Reproduction


The clutch contains an average of 13-15 eggs. Eggs are laid at intervals of 24 hours. Only the female incubates for about 30 days. After 24-36 hours after hatching, the chicks leave the nest, jumping to the ground at the call of the duck.


Species and people


The bright plumage of carolinas has long attracted people. In the XVII century, these ducks were brought to the park of the Palace of Versailles in France, where they perfectly took root. Carolina Duck feel great in the wild, where they have been found in Europe since the nineteenth century.


Interesting Facts


The mating dress of the males appears in the autumn and until spring the drakes are very beautiful, but in the summer they shed, and the plumage becomes dull until the next autumn.
