Long Life Span of Animals - Stimulus to New Records of Humans!

Health is of crucial importance in human life, starting from mood and ending up physical condition. To remind us of that, the Day of Health was proclaimed in the 7th of April, 1950. The motto of 2019 is "Activity is a Way to Longevity"!

Thus we decided to tell you about animals with ling life span, such ones that humans can't surpass. They bear little similitude to us, but humans hope that one day science will learn their secret how to prolong active existence.

Giant turtles from Galapagos and Seychelles islands are famous for their longevity. Stillm however, their ability to live for 250-300 years has not been proved yet. Even a famous turtle which was given by captain Cook to polynesian king of Tonga island, turned out to be "a wrong one". Cook could bring only Galapagos turtle in the XVIIIthe century. The turtle that died in by the end of XXth century was Seychelles island turtle! For both species it has been recorded that the maximum life span is no longer 170 years. But this is not little! Many other big turtles and crocodiles can overstep the mark of 100 years. North American Caroline turtle can live until 138 years!

There are many long-living individuals among inhabitants of the North who live in cold climate conditions. Bivalve mollusk that inhabits rivers of Eurasia and North America lives until 210-250. Aleut rockfish can live until – 205 years. Record of mamals family, to which we belong, is set by Greenland whale that live up to 211 years! This mammal does not have any enemies, it leads a steady living which is similar to Greenland shark. It seems like cold-water-living sword fish, a giant carnivore dolphin who leads quite a strenuous life, also lives up to that mark.

The "neighbours" of Greenland whale can boast of another "champion", a polar shark. One female was defined as 272-512 years of age, middle number is about 400 years. That means it was born in XVIIth century.  Even if we take into account her minimally possible age, 272 years, it will still be the most long-living vertebrate on the Earth. It has a very slow metabolism which probably is the reason of such a life span.
