QUIET! BEARS ARE SLEEPING!

18 January, in the morning, our keepers heard a quiet thread of sound coming from bears’ lair of Brown Bear female Sonya. As it is habitual to all bears living in temperate climate, our bears had their hibernation period that started from the first frosty days. During sleep pregnant females give birth to their cubs. Usually there is 1 cub or two cubs. Three new-born cubs are quite rare. New-born cubs are about 23 cm long, they weigh about 0,5 kg. That is due to the fact that the female does not eat anything and her body reserves are also used for milk feeding of the young.
